It is now possible to switch to poly ester strapping on round bundles. The problem in the past for tool like Fromm P327 or ORT400 is the base literally gets strapped onto the round. Since strapping goes though the tool, and the tool has a gripper and weld foot under the strap, when the tool pulls 900 pounds of tension, there is tons of pressure not letting the tool go.
The solution to switch to poly strap on rounds is the Fromm P380. This brand new style tool splits the tensioning system (feedwheel) and the welding system. Other strapping tools have the feedwheel and welder together, making the part the strapping goes over much larger. The very small foot under the strap on the P380 lets it move out with ease on round or irregular objects. Fromm also switched the location of components, now the feedwheel is behind (and separate from) the welder. Separating them means switching to poly is easier since there is only 1/2 the foot to pull out from under the banding (just the welding part).
Old cord strapping tensioners had a similar problem. The base is just too large to pull out from under the strapping. The cord strap battery and pneumatic tools had a base that was nearly impossible to pull out. Golden Bear’s battery and pneumatic cord strapping tools C11 fixes this problem! This tool pulls tons of tension on the cord strap, but the small base lets you use cord strap on pipe, rod and other small bundles. Now you can switch to poly cord strap on round bundles!
