Why Switch to Polystrapping?

There are several options for strap packaging material such as steel cord, polyester, poly propylene. With the industry constantly evolving, many new ways of strapping are being designed and developed. Slowly the industry is moving to rely on poly strapping as it has time and again proved that it is strong and reliable for heavy duty strapping.

Several strapping solutions can be used with battery operated tools, which are also making their way to the top of the product leader board. Gone are the days of hard to operate manual tools. Companies are switching to battery tools that can pull more tension with minimal effort. For heavy duty strapping solutions, heavy duty plastic strapping is the best option.

Customers prefer polyester strapping as it is readily available, cost effective and very easy to handle. The labor is significantly reduced as a single person can do the job just as fast as when previously using steel strapping. It is also comparatively lighter with safer edges than steel strapping.

In any industry, the main concern is the safety of the workers. There are industries which inquire about non-metallic strapping for the simple reason that it reduces worker injury to a large extent. Recently, a few companies discovered that the injury sustained by their workers most of the time was due to injuries caused by steel strapping. The injuries were caused mostly during the removal and disposal of strap. This led them to explore the benefits of poly strapping and how best to use them, in order to reduce the risk of injury to the workers at the plant.

Once the companies figured out the benefits of poly strapping in preventing injuries, they also discovered that switching to poly strap would cut their costs in half as poly strapping came at half the cost of steel strapping. They found that savings occurred in several areas. For example, banding cost per foot was significantly lower. It is faster to apply and a single man could do the job that a couple of people were required to do earlier.

There are several tools that are used for poly strapping in particular. Battery tools from Fromm and Signode made strapping faster.  They did all the work at the touch of a button. Another advantage to using poly strapping is that it does not damage the product. While steel strapping can pull and cut the corners, poly strapping is softer and does not cut.

Moreover, steel strapping tends to rust when it is exposed to the elements for a long time. Once it rusts, it leaves a dirty red line on the product. This used to be a big problem, especially while packing lumber. The top boards used to have a red strapping line on them.

The poly strapping also has a break strength of about 3,800 lbs. Since this has no sharp edges and a great elongation, it has a great advantage over steel strapping. A coil of poly strapping weighs only about 50 pounds, while the steel strapping weighs about 100. With poly strapping having double the footage, it is wiser to switch to poly strapping from steel strapping.
